tensioner pulley change

Post by dei9 »

Hello all,

I need to change my tensioner pulley, but the problem is that the pulley itself has somehow come off the spindle(?), and is resting freely against the side.
So, I spoke to Paul about this the other week and he said to take the engine mounting off drop the engine down and it from there, however (not to go against his advice), I feel the space is already limited enough and dropping the engine would angle it more towards the side, does any one have any further advice to add? Quite willing to do this myself, ramp her up on that side and drop the engine onto a jack and take it from there, but it still seems tight?
Any posts where there is a walk through?

Thanks, Dei

Which tensioner pulley do you mean Dei?

On a 110HDi both Aux. belt tensioners are dead easy to swap... I'm not even sure it really needs the engine mount to come off unless I've forgotten what that side of an HDi looks like now...

Is this doable from the top then? It seems a tight fit. And how on earth am I to remove the plastic part that came off?
It's a 15mm counterclockwise bolt? (not that I believe you paul, just want to confirm).

Thanks all.

There's not much that hasn't been done before on here....http://www.frenchcarforum.co.uk/forum/v ... hp?t=33910" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; :)

If you remove the ECU and its box from the inner wing (2 10mm bolts in the bottom, then wiggle off the air inlet pipe at the front) you will be greeted with much more room. However, from memory the tensioner is actually behind the chassis rail, so you will need to remove the engine mount and jack the engine up a bit to get to the mounting bolt (looks like just a single socket cap screw in the centre of the spring). The original tensioner is not quite like the one you posted as the nut to relieve the tension is in the centre of the pulley, but otherwise similar. You only need the 15mm spanner on the centre to relieve the tension - you will need to do this to get the transit pin out once you have fitted (I used to use a bike pedal spanner for this as it is nice and thin). You may well need to get access to the lower tensioner (from under the wing) once the new one is fitted to set the tension correctly / get the belt on.

Well, you tell some things they ask about, and then they ask again on a forum... dont get me wrong, Ill help anyone, and any of the regular and new guys, but not often the same question is asked to other...

Prehaps im being over reacting, but a slight feeling of undermining... I dunno..

its not that i never believed you paul, so wasnt trying to undermine you, but the fact the plastic thing has come ofd the pulley made me wonder where does it get the space to drop and tilt down more towards the side... like i said, my car is parked on a street fhese days and its not so easy to work on underneath a car with the engine resting on a jack or something, so i wondered and asked for other peoples opinions too. that is all, chances are i might get it done at an indy, i really cant be bothered dropping the engine, unless i can do it from the top, which looks unlikely.

It sounds like with your "workshop facilities" being limited and the job being quite easy from a ramp, then as it is not specific Citroen in nature, maybe the Indi would be the best/most cost effective way for getting you back and running for a few quid.
