my key

Post by dei9 »

Hi all,

I recently discovered that inside my key the two little micro-switches have fallen off the circuit board completely, i did wonder if i could have soldered them back on, but they are just too tiny to even bother.

so the key works (mechanically), other than not having remote central locking, does it not arm the alarm when it's not remotely locked?

also... how would i go about getting another key (or circuit board?) would i need a complete key or can i program another circuit board somehow, I assume the immobilizer works off this (how? like nfc?)

cheers guys,
Dei

Normally on keys the component that deals with the immobiliser is a small glass capsule in the head of the key proper, while the remote is a separate, mush larger circuit board. The alarm will NOT be set, as this is done by the remote functions. However, the LED in the door does blink when the car is locked, so it could still deter would be thieves.

You may be able to get a replacement circuit board, but there are also people who will repair your key for a fee. You send off the key, and they will fit new micro switches. This is an example of such;

Obviously you will be without this key while it is being repaired, so don't do this unless you have a working spare key. However, the same company do a kit (well, two switches and a battery), so you could (if you are happy soldering) get that;

The usual set-up with genuine alarms on the cars is that when you lock them remotely, they arm, when you lock them mechanically (door lock), they don't get armed ... that way you have 2 possibilities, depending on the need ... one potential problem is when you lock remotely, but unlock mechanically, the alarm does get triggered ...

For a Series 2 Xantia if the transponder chip is still working ok (it can still start the engine) then you can just get a new circuit board for the remote transmitter, swap it in, then reprogram using a Lexia. About 5 minutes work for someone who knows how to use a Lexia. To do the programming you must have or obtain the 4 character "confidential code" that was issued on a card when the car was new. This number can be obtained from Citroen if necessary.

so the transponder chip is a seperate thing to the circuit board where the buttons fell off? If so thats not too bad then, they've proper hidden the transponder then, I guess i'll go to Citroen to see what they will do for me first, am i likely to get that code for free? but they will charge me for coding it?
Is it possible to buy that circuit board off ebay to slip into the key? will buy the rubber buttons too, i've seen them too, about 3.49, but not the circuit board.
thanks

The code will probably cost you around £10 (well, it did for me about 4 years ago). You can get the rubbers from Citroen for a few pounds. I have occasionally seen the circuit boards on e-bay, but I cannot remember the price.

I think I answered you question else where before. . I have managed to solder them back on before now with a fine soldering iorn.. the issue is surface mount and over zelious operators pressing toooo hard because there is a delay between button press and operation.

its also possible to program a new plipper with a lexia of course..

Is that the only key you got? They aren't RF keys, so you have no choice but to use the key on door lock and therefore no accidental alarm activation!

Ohhhh yes, thats a RF plipper...

No Xantia key blades do not spring out, they need manual pulling out, which is a better idea, as from experiance the spring loaded key idea is crap... ok when they work but I never got a replacment or original working once it broke..
