AX 1.4 KDX running lean

Post by jsp »

hi, my ax stopped smoking white but, it's running lean?

My spark plugs won't go to the correct colour. I am using NGK BKR5EIX-11

It stays on white.

How long does it take before the spark plugs are coloured?

by the way merry Christmas and a happy new year.

Are you expecting the white insulator tips on the spark plug to discolour ?

On a modern fuel injected petrol engine with oxygen sensor it should automatically run at the correct mixture during idle and cruise and this should not discolour the insulators if the plugs are the correct heat range. They should stay nice and white and clean.

If the oxygen sensor wasn't working the car would tend to run rich which would show signs of fouling on the insulations, so if that's not happening it's probably running fine and you are most likely looking for problems that don't exist...

yes it starts and shuts down fine

well it's a issue but, my other ax runs much more black on the plugs than this one in a very short time.

I'd say this one has a fault if it's running rich like and blackening the plugs. It shouldn't have black plugs..

Weird, this 1.4 won't colour the plug and the other 1.1 colours too quick:

Above: 1.1 AX spark plugs

Under: 1.4 AX spark plugs

valve stems went bad. Got another engine was cheaper than replacing the valve stems. Keeping this engine as spares.
