Xantia Heated Mirrors

Post by KP »

We're these only fitted to exclusive models and possibly those with the winter pack fitted?

I only ask as I'm sure my activa doesn't have them or if it does they aren't working so if worst came to the worst I was thinking of just getting the mirrors now they are about £5 each and I could just run wires to the HRW relay and earth them in the door as they aren't going to draw a lot of power.

I don't use the car much if at all in this current weather but as the car has heated leather it would be another nice thing to add to it :)

Is your heated rear window wording Will?

I'm not sure if the standard Activa did have them. Mine has but that's because it has the factory option winter kit fitted (Headlamp washers, heated seats, washer jets and so on).

Definitely worth fitting them as I miss them on my C1... I'm thankful it even has any mirrors actually...

HRW works fine Jim :) not as fast as the one on the fatty but certainly works and the aircon does as well. It's becuase I have to park the car on grass at the moment but I really need to get it covered in wood chip and weed matting as it just turns into a swamp when it rains and one of the wheels already tried to sink in so now that side of the car sits on waffles :(

IIRC heated mirrors were standard on SX trim and above, they certainly were fitted to Activa's, tilt the mirrors down and look for the connectors at the top of the mirror glass. It's quite common for corrosion on the contacts and for the heated mats on the glass itself to stop working.

Yes my Diesel Vsx has them. I thought that if the glass has a blueish tint they are heated. Easiest way to tell is to pop the glass out, theres a tab for the element wires if they are supposed to be heated. A lot of aftermarket glass is missing the element, it's easy to get a car that should have them but doesn't and also easy to sort out.

Cheers Richard :) I have to move the car all of 1' soon so will go check now :)

Update: just checked and can't see behind the glass. I've ordered a replacement genuine one for a Dutch Xantia owner who can't get a genuine one at decent price over there so when it arrives here I csn check the clip arrangement before popping them off to check. Just annoying that they aren't marked with the heated element marker on them :(

Apologies Will I gave you duff advice re the location of the connections for the heated mirror, they are on the inside of the mirror near the door, the wire tabs at the top of the mirror are to remove the glass, simply move one of the wires towards the other as if you were squeezing them. I have a heated mirror glass going spare, if you'd like it pm me your address and I'll pop it in the post.

A new mirror glass with heating element is not expensive - I got a replacement for the drivers side on my new V6 from ebay for about £8 I think - and the heater on it definitely works.
