Anyone have real trade values?

Post by daviemck2006 »

I know that c5's can be got cheap, I mean my own one was ridiculously cheap but has anyone got a dealer value book who can look up the values of my car. Like trade in, private, retail etc. 2007 07 reg c5 2.0 hdi vtr, 115000 miles, unmarked, good tyres, two keys, partial service history colour white. Just would like to know what the trade guides say before I enter into negotiations with insurance company.

I've been wondering the same thing for our 2005 C5 2.0HDi 138 VTR Estate with 126k miles.

We told the insurance that it has full history and that it has had a new DMF and clutch recently, along with a set of new Michelin tyres, brakes, timing belt etc. They say this will increase its value if we can provide receipts for the parts/work. Of course if it is to be written off then the most for the car is needed, given the costs in changing car and any repairs it will likely need.

I'd put ours at a sale price of £1600-£1800, given its general condition and history but I suspect the insurance will offer around £1000, should it come to that ... if so it'll be time for an update

Real shame as the car could not be replaced for that, especially for a car with all of this work done, which has cost a great deal more than £1000. We've had it 5 years and its been an excellent car and should have many years left, if only someone hadn't crashed into it!

I'm thinking mine would be worth much the same really, the 2 years newer and estate would probably cancel each other out. I would be willing to bet I will not get another 2007 c5 for what I will get paid. A quick count up of parts for mi e is over 2 grand plus maybe 1 grand of paint and labour. You would hardly think it's a 3 grand bump I had.

Which of course should never be mentioned on the internet, and you are now going to go back and delete any trace of mentioning ;-)

Condition and mileage are everything on C5's. A tatty but roadworthy one can be bought for £300-400, the best price you will get for a pre facelift model with low mileage, good condition and all the toys is about £700-800. The facelift models are worth quite a lot more in half decent condition.

The most accurate guide without doubt is Ebay, look for a vehicle in similar condition to yours and see how much it sells for, not what they are asking for it, they are the real world prices.

Parkers, which is not a million miles off, gives a trade in price of £1485 for an 80k one. With 115k miles, I would think that would be nearer £1000.

The value of a car is what someone is prepared to pay for it and nothing demonstrates that better than ebay.

The people who lose are the ones who have paid dealer prices and then had the poor car written off. Then the rock bottom offer from ins gets made. In an odd situation, some people can do ok. Generally it is like trying to beat The Bookie :lol:
If you have spent on maintenance and big outlay, before write off, you never get this back for a car anyway do you? A tiny bit maybe on resale.

Very true. With what I pay for mine I could afford to write them off in the case of an accident, although fortunately I don't have many, and maintenance doesn't cost much as I do it myself.

Don't knock Parker's Values :) , yes you can get one cheaper on ebay, I did, but when they wright it off post "accident", you will get a lot more for your car even after a year !...I made a profit of £20 :)

Seems insurance companies have to take a middle ground as "advised by case law"......eg Small Trader prices....

I agree with this. When my first VTS was written off, I sent the insurance company examples that had sold on ebay & they upped their offer, not to the amount I'd paid, but enough to buy the current one with some change. If you look down the left side panel on ebay, there is a box you can tick to show only sold items. Not sure if the link will work, but if it does, like this;

I have a good idea how much the car was worth before the bump. Im just waiting now to see what is happening. No one from the authorised repairers or Insurance has seen the car, I have sent in photos to the repairers as requested. As far as I know the car is still being taken away on tuesday afternoon and I will be left a courtesy car.
