There don't appear to be any min/max marks on either of the ones I've owned... I fill it up to just below the tip of the tube that extends up inside the middle of the bottle.

I don't have a book for the new V6 but I did have one for the old one... and I don't recall it offering much in the way of help with the coolant level - any marks it might have described don't seem to exist!

If you overfill it (which I've done before) it will blow out the back of the filler cap drain in most spectacular fashion as soon as it gets hot. If you can't see the tube in the middle poking out above the surface of the liquid it's overfilled...

I do as you do Simon and maintain the coolant level at half-full - just so that the internal white bit that looks a bit like a pipe or tube is just covered...

If you overfill then excess coolant will just blow out and I've found generally that half-full is it's natural happy level.

No, but two long-term V6 owners have spoken of their practical findings in the matter

I agree with the last two posters, just below the level of the "tube". After losing my lower coolant hose on my TD twice in 18 months and refilling I have had to refill a lot. If I fill above the "bottom of the tube" it just blows out the clear overflow pipe! I always decant a bottle of stop leak in there to try and stave off the dreaded matrix leak as long as possible!!

Does your TD have the same coolant bottle design though ? I thought the HDi 110 was the only other Xantia to share the same coolant bottle design as the V6 ?

You'd be surprised how much boiling water expands. It's not called the coolant expansion chamber for nothing ;)

From cold to hot it expands by nearly half the volume of the chamber, hence half full is the most you want it to be when cold...

No, the 2.1TD Xantia is the only other one to share the same expansion bottle as the V6.

The HDi uses the same standard wing-mounted one...
