Plastic Membrane

Hi, my SI Xantia (saloon) is letting water in through the boot! I understand that there is a plastic membrane somewhere within. anybody know where ? could be the reason for the leak ? cheers Terry.

It's in the tailgate, if you remove the inner carpet type cover, held on with quite a few screws you'll see it. Re seal with some sort of mastic.
There was a recent post about this involving using a plastic strip to firmly fix the membrane in place.
Also check the light lenses, the rubber tailgate wiring cover grommets and the sunroof drains.

sorry to sound thick......but where are the sun roof drains ?

Rear sunroof drains go down the c pillar but come out in the top of the rear wheel archs.. I had wet rear carpets on a car which had a blocked drain.. put the car on high make sure she stays up.. leave engine running.. then look up into the rear arch on passenger side you can see the pipe.. poke carefully a thin rod.. watch though if it is blocked you will get a wet arm!

Also rear lamp seals can also let water in too!!

Before answering I had to check the word saloon and got the answer from wikipedia: "Saloon (automobile), a style of car body also known as a sedan" .

Your car does not have a plastic membrane, Only Xantia Estate models have it in the tailgate which can cause such leaks.

So the leak in your car is caused by another source as suggested above. My guess would be the rear lights, hardened plastic around the lamps might be the reason.
