How do I improve c5 2.2L HDi mpg?

Post by fotobright »

Hi,

Just wondering if someone can offer tips which they have found will improve the mpg on a 2.2L. I've had it maybe two months and getting average 40mpg for urban and motorway. Obviously the 2.0L would be better but a changeover aint happening at the moment. Any thoughts or links?

Thanks

Thats just about it for the 2.2 !! Sorry but True! The only way to improve it is to sell it and get a 2.0 either 8v or 16v version!!

2.2 is reknown for not have a great mpg figure at all!

Indeed this would kill the car. XUD fine, common rail no. I was hoping for more info along the lines of ERG, FAP, vacuum hose checks etc :)

Nope, Sorry, 2.2 DW12 engine is inheritley poor on fuel for a modern DI Common rail engine design!

XUD only on Bosch though is good for Veg Oil....

Surely I could squeeze an extra 5mpg out of it somewhere? ERG cleanout/blank & FAP removal etc?

I think 40 is already a good 2.2 figure already..

FAP removal is now techically an illegal operation now, if the MOT tester can proove it has been removed.

Console yourself with the thought that my 2.0 only gets 32~34 mpg, just like the last one. And the Accord before that.

My old 2.2 never bettered 40mpg over a whole tank if I remember correctly. And that was working 45 miles from home all on quiet country roads at a steady 50 mph I don't get much more out of my current 2.0 16v, but it has different use, often just short runs in town with a good blast once or twice a month.

I'm inclined towards thinking the problem is the person in charge of the loud pedal Paul. :)

I'm afraid the only way is to drive like an 80 year old vicar.
Even at a steady 50 mph on the motorway I can only squeeze 53 MPG out of mine. Around town I can get up to 39 MPG at a push.
The 170 BHP is nice for swift overtaking though.
