Not sure if I can get car back on road for a good while. Any one locally got the flare tool, I could use? I'm in West London, right by the M40.

Thanks For the sympathy Richard - it helps. Yes I tried Pleiades. Martin won't be getting any in for a while , not until he's used up the 3.5 and can then do a minimum order.

You're right Malcom, I was mixed up. Sorry.

Thanks for your kind offer, there. I take it you're in Hastings then?

I think I'd better order a length from Germany and see what i can do with it.
I don't want a Citroen steel one at £90 odd plus. I think it won't be as good to fit or last.

I see a tool for about £155 which I'm tempted to go for... But with all the other and Christmas looming....

I'll keep in touch. Thanks Guys, I appreciate your steeling my nerves. :-)

here's the tool i bought, although i contacted the the seller ( Wrights auto supplies ) and asked if the could supply the 6.3 dies as well with the kit in the link below

http://tinyurl.com/oz3zoel" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

they said they will ask there supplier/the manufacturer local to them in Coventry, but the company was on a two week shut down, and they would get back to me once they have spoken to the supplyier,

i had forgoten all about it, till one day i got a call from t6he lady at Wrights saying they can supply the 6.3 die with the rest of the kit they were listing, at a cost of i think it were around £180 something all in

It s the section from k-splitter, over and down the rear subframe, to continue into the plastic covered run alongside the cill to front. I should measure it, tomorrow. At a guess around 1 1/2 to 2 foot would be needed to take me to the cill. I'll measure up tomorrow morning.

Snap Malcom, I found the same thing and have got into a state where I want it (and get married to Citroen :sun: ) to be good and buy it, here:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Brake-Pipe-Fl ... 20ef5efc24
I suppose Id leave the 6.3mm die for now. So you rate it eh?
:?: Do you think I could use it on the car on 4.5mm pipe cut just at the start of the plastic covered run alongside the sill. Its a long run, so I guess I could pull down a good length of pipe to give some overhead and side clearance there. If you do reckon so, I'll order one immediately.

Right, so I should contact Wrights then.
What do you think about my hope for using it to make that join on the car (mentioned just above) - any chance?

not sure, unless may be you have a vice you can place on the floor under the car to clamp the tool in, then have enough pipe un/cliped to reach the tool,

otherwise put the car in the vice :yikes: :roll: #-o :twisted: :-D :lol: :rofl2: :rofl2: :rofl2:

I still think you'll have a problem att the K end John.. the only way I could get some ends out was heat, expanding the aluminium.(unless you've got it out already) You don't really need to drop the rear subframe either.. there's enough room for you to feel and manipulate the pipe into a reasonable route down towards the underside tray.
Its held in place with a few torx? screws placed centrally in the tray, 4 I think. and clips on each side of the tray, also each tray clips into the next one. You should be able to get enough clear pipe to enable you to make a join, if thats the road your going down.
Good luck,
Chris

Xantia II rear brakes, imbalance corrosion and, pipe leak,

Post by John Plum »

@superloopy
A Good morning to you - nice and Sunny.
I cut out the part and it measures at 37 cm, with one extra cm to play with.

Space for flaring at the break point looks most promising. Easy to pull out a long length.

John.

Thanks Chris. Yes the Join at K-splitter comes next; well I just did one the others soaked in plus gas.
This time I'll hold the splitter in mole grips, against the turn.
If the third (final ) pipe on the splitter cracks, well, that's only a shortish run in 3.5mm.
I have heat standing by, and I shall give it a little warming to begin with.

I need to get a pipe joiner. I understand Paelides do one which take citron flares (in 3.5mm anyway, not sure about 4,5 availability yet);
Now, here's one with compression olives

Its supplied by burton2CV. Do you know, would that take the pressure?

A little info on pipe unions might serve me well.
I understand Paelides 10mm heads are preferred. I'm going to contact him again, he may have them may not in 4.5mm.
It would do well for me to know what the actual lengths and thread size are for Xantia 4.5 mm and 3.5 mm pipe…. as I'm ordering and they might vary according to supplier specialisation, e.g. 2CV specialists etc…

pipe flare tool is ordered.:-)
Thanks,
John
