My starter motor is now dead...need a new one but am confused by the number of teeth. Anyone knows how to determine what teeth number suits my car without removing the unit from the engine? it's a 53 reg xsara picasso 2.0 HDI 90.
And anyone knows CEVAM? The price is attractive on mister auto but i don't want to buy rubbish.
Thanks,
Chang

I'm afraid you are going to have to take it off. I have seen BXs and XMs with differing no of teeth but only by one and either worked.

Thanks Peter. So you mean that number does not really matter?Peter.N. wrote:I'm afraid you are going to have to take it off. I have seen BXs and XMs with differing no of teeth but only by one and either worked.

Re: Starter motor: brand and number of teeth
It does, quite considerably, matter how many teeth there are on the pinion. As does rotation.
Motor factors should be able to sort you out, reg or vin is helpful too.

Will have to replace it in this weekend. luckily I can find bump start friendly places to park my car before the problem is sorted out

Re: Starter motor: brand and number of teeth
If there is only one tooth difference it doesn't make much difference to the diameter or pitch but of course there is a correct motor for each application.
