Sorry, Paul. However, I didn't know what your level of IT knowledge is, and I would much rather tell you something important (and have you tell me you know it already) than assume you know it and make an avoidable and costly mistake.

Software complicates me, but I did do some IT in school AND college in my B tec engineering course, and I have messed with Laptops and PCs often enough. Its the software that catch's me out like these virtual things..
However, we have it working, and the virtual XP recognises the USB port too!

Re: Lexia on Windows 7
Glad you got it working Paul... The USB filter part is sometimes a bit of trial and error.. If I had my laptop with the lexia on with me, i could have given the correct filter to use, but you sorted it anyway
Never used anti static wrist bands when working with computers in the past 17 years or so that I've been fiddling with them.. I just normally touch a radiator or so and it's been fine.

When I worked for Wincor Nixdorf we were issued with an anti static mat kit as part of the tool kit. We were expected to use it when working on PCs (and I did). It portrayed a professional image to the clients, and meant I would be able to get a decent sized workspace.

You won't see any difference Paulcitroenxm wrote: be interesting to see how slow lexia will be when communicating with a car!
The communications speed between the Lexia and the car is very slow compared to how even the slowest XP machine can execute the Lexia code so the speed of the operating system is not the limiting factor.
I believe the native Lexia code used is quite old 16 bit stuff that runs in a WoW so on that basis it was quite possibly designed to run on a lot slower hardware than your XP laptop...

Re: Lexia on Windows 7
I would still install the virtualbox expansion pack though Paul - it's quick and easy to install and it provides USB 2.0 support.
Without it I believe virtual box will run the Lexia interface in USB 1.2 mode instead of 2.0, which is very much slower.
Whether that will cause issues in practice I don't know, but keep it in mind if you have problems getting it to work on an actual car or it seems unusually slow. Not all USB 2.0 devices can fall back to USB 1.2 mode properly as USB 1.2 host controllers have been obsolete for many years now...
