2001 Xantia Y reg

Post by xantiagreen »

What would a 2001 Xantia Forte 110 Hdi Hatch sell for (cheaper tax bracket with 116k)
It's either both the corolla and xantia go and get a heavy duty kids transporter or get rid of xantia and see how the 1997 corolla goes, currently corolla needs 2 new rear shock + springs and bump stops and dust covers all in £200 fitted.

This Christmas I may have to sell the xantia, unless I can garage it for a year or two. :(

Why don't you keep the Xantia and get rid of the Corolla?

For a serious family car on a budget, a Xantia is not the thing to have, that's why!

The corolla's served well for the last four years and spent 2 years as a midi skip it's a 3 door 1.3 auto 87k, I want to keep the xantia but keep thinking of trying to keep costs down and the xantia I rarely use, nobody else drives it because I won't let them (its my precious) so I have to decide as insurance renewal is up in 2 weeks at £244 fully comp, MOT in 3 weeks (no problem with passing) full service also in 2 weeks £140 inc parts, just put 2 new falkens on rear couple of weeks ago and finally the window regulator needs repairing. See how thins pan out....

If this was the only car in household then xantia it would be, but because the long serving cracking corolla is on it's hind legs wanting a repair the economical way forward would be to garage the xantia and repair the corolla, but I don't have the garage to store it in, friends will offer their garage but I would end up cursing them for life if something happened to the xantia. I've even looked at storage but the thieves charge between £40 - £80 a month from dehumidified storage space to fully valeted and tyre rotational/battery recycle optional.

Each to their own, but if I had to make the choice a Japanese car would win over a Xantia of any age now, and I've ran just about every model of Xantia as a family car at some point - our sole car was an Activa for over a year!

Aye Japanese cars are crackin, don't even want to think of owning an active (I used to dream of buying a C6, but then I'd wake up in a puddle of LHM) one of these days I might just go to a dealership and test drive a C6...

i think the XANT would be a far better "heavy duty kids transporter" than a three door Auto Corola, or three door anything for that matter,

obviously depends on how many little darlings you own whoooops i mean have

A Xantia would make a better kiddy carrier until it invariably broke down and you couldn't get parts immediately to repair it (power steering pipe anyone?) . These things have to be taken into account when carting youngsters about and relying on one car only. Having a car that could leave you expensively immobile for days, to me, is not an option. It would be the Corolla every time. I like Xantias, but with the youngest now 14 years old and with Citroën's habit of making parts NFP, I'd have one as a hobby car or second car but nothing else.

I dread to wake up and find the Xantia's had a wet dream on the day it's being sold, you can't exactly bung an egg or two in like they used to in the rads.
For £1000 what condition would you expect the xantia to be in on a 2001 Y plate and for £800? [-o<

1 boy 9, 2 girls 6 and 3, took me a while to get the kids to stop prodding and poking the interior (seat covers fitted) corolla's safe as don't have to worry about rear doors being opened or windows wound down. In the xantia I'm always worried the girls will try opening the door even with the child locks on, it can happen.
I remember I was in front seat with my dad in his Cortina and two sisters in the back they must have been 6 or 7 they opened the rear door as we were leaving home on a straight road and as my dad followed the road which turned to the left the girls fell out, can't remember if they were hurt but no ambulance needed, but I was the one who got told off because apparently I knew what was going on. I'm gonna question my dad later on today and my two sisters.

They make wonderful family cars. wouldn't be without it at the moment.

Steering pipe? £40 for the flexi with special adaptors, or £50 complete, delivered to your door! Citroen may be NLA, but there are solutions!
