Wishbone
Hi, my S1 Xantia, I need to replace the front bush on the wishbone. Is it a case of ......."Brute force and ignorance", to knock out the old bush ( hammer) or is there a more gentle way ? it is very tight. many thanks in advance Terry. p.s. what is the torq setting for....wishbone to swivel joint ? (hub) .

Re: Wishbone
I cannot offer advise on replacing the bush, but according to the Haynes BoL the three bolts that hold the wishbone in place have a torque of 85NM, and onto the swivel with a torque of 45NM

Re: Wishbone
Hi Terry,
Replacing the front bush in a wishbone is not quite as straightforward as doing the rearward 'P' bush.
The old bush requires removing and this takes some effort. It must be done carefully to avoid cracking the wishbone 'eye' it is mounted in. I know as I have.
The bush is in there very tightly and to get the new one in you need a piece of large diameter threaded rod and a pair of suitably sized mandrels. Trying to squeeze them in using a large vice and sockets may work but it's not the most perfect way to do the job. Team WFA find the threaded rod approach works best.
To extract the old bush we find the best method is to extract the inner core and then very carefully hacksaw a cut in the outer shell to induce a weakness that can then be exploited with a hammer and punch to drive the old outer shell out of the eye.
I say again, be so careful not to crack or otherwise damage the eye as that'll write off the whole wishbone...

Yep, as James says. There's three of us in the team (Chris570, Hydrocobra and I) and we specialise in doing the difficult stuff on Xantias, XMs and other random PSA stuff mainly by hurling large quantities of profanity and big hammers at the job in hand...froggy wrote:Team WFA.......?

We remain undefeated to date. Team WFA 1 Citroen 0.
And we've had some battles and triumphs (as in successes, not the cars)...

He might be although I don't believe he is as he does appear to have a woman in his life...Stickyfinger wrote:CitroJim wrote:Imagine the Top Gear team and you have a good idea of how we are. I'm James May...froggy wrote:Team WFA.......?

Nah, he's not. He's been living with his girlfriend for nigh on 15 years now.CitroJim wrote:He might be although I don't believe he is as he does appear to have a woman in his life...Stickyfinger wrote:CitroJim wrote:

Re: Wishbone
Nope, because he can use tools other than hammers! I have seen him at work taking apart the engine from an RX8, and working on the suspension of an Activa.northern_mike wrote:I imagine Chris570 to be Jeremy Clarkson for some reason.

Re: Wishbone
I can also use hammers other than tools. I'm much more like Clarkson than may though, and give me a big powerful destructive tool or powerful windy gun any day. I've also done plenty of Activa suspension work..
