There is another possibility (although it does seem like a fuel issue). There are microbes that thrive in diesel. Over time these build up into a sludge around the fuel pickup, and thereby restrict the fuel flow. Although this post is for biodiesel the same is true for normal diesel;

I am assuming that this van has a 2litre 8 valve engine with a Bosch injection system. The problem is most likely the pressure regulator on the back of the high pressure pump. Another symptom is that the engine often doesn't stop immediately when the key is turned off.

I would get a leak off check done on the injectors, if you have a leaky injector or 2 it can cause a drop in fuel pressure under load which will cause the engine to cut out, they don't normally log fault codes either when this happens as its a mechanical failure of the injector & not the electrical part.

Hi Guys
Thank you so much for the extra info = have passed it on.
He did mention that the van starts like a dream, which is usually not the case when the injectors have a problem.
The other thing is that when it stops, you have to physically take out the key, and re-insert it to start the van again.

he is going to take out the injectors when he gets a mo andcheck them.

If that's the problem, we might be saying bye bye to the blasted thing

he got a price for injectors the other day for a Rover - €170 each !!!! (re-conditioned I think)
Going off now to check the Lotto
