Re: Insurance Companies hate C5's (and C6's)
Quick, buy it back! If that is all that is wrong with it, and you know a good body shop, you can get her back on the road and make a profit!

Re: Insurance Companies hate C5's (and C6's)
Hi Razor,
I did plan on doing that, more as a project for a bit of Dad and Son bonding, but the lads showed no interest at all and as there were more than a few jobs to be done I decided to take the cash and run. Annoying that I did the brakes, but at least I didnt do the other jobs yet, see below.
The C5 interior was unmarked, almost mint, and the engine and box were both as sweet as nuts.
That said I have been saving up some big jobs. It was well over due for a Hydrolic drain, flush, and refil, which I was going to do when I replaced the slowly weeping front shocks, then the auto box was due a drain and refill, a new timing belt and tensioners was on the list, along with a full service, aircon regas, droplinks and a ball joint, a few other 'bits and pieces'. After consideration I decided to take the cash and add my savings to it to buy a later vehicle rather than fix up the old one.
I am also a bit too honest for my own good when it comes to selling cars. I never sell the vehicle without pointing out all the jobs that needed doing, so I would likely not have sold it for more than i bought the salvage for.

Re: Insurance Companies hate C5's (and C6's)
I doubt that your insurance company bases its decisions on whether the suspension id hydro or springs, they simply base it on the book trade value and in the trade a twelve year old car of most makes is worth nowt.
Man is, by nature, a lazy beast, he does not need twice encouraging to do nothing.
Re: Re: Insurance Companies hate C5's (and C6's)
You got a market value offer from an insurance company for a 12 year old petrol auto C5 that had a long list of things needing doing and your complaining? Really?Stuckinsidethematrix wrote:
In fairness to the Insurance Company I was offered the full market value for my car in cash with no quibbling, and with no excess deduction as there was no fault on my part. But why the write off?
The issue is not that they have hydropneumatic suspension, it's that big old Citroëns are worth 2/5ths of sweet FA. My ex- Xantia Activa was repaired by an insurance company when it was 11 years old after an expensive collision with a badger - more than £1900 of work! I had an Orion written off when it was 7 years old because it had a broken steering lock.
Maintenance records and bills make no difference to an insurance company unless it's on a specialist classic policy. After all, aren't you expected to maintain a car....

In fact this one was all set to be a good one. I'm sorry the OP deleted the first post.
