A fortune, but the rest of the car is mainly sound, bar the aircon and the occasional sticky heater flap. I think the heater flap is an electronics issue rather than the usual worn gear on the flap motor, as it seems to always reset itself back to whatever temperature is set after I turn the ignition off.

All cars give trouble as mileage creeps up I've driven pretty much every type of saloon type car and they all have issues the hdi is a good engine and you trade off handling for comfort with the c5 not by much though

I have a C5 at 200,000 miles and a 406 at 230k, both excellent cars in there own way, the C5 is big and comfortable, the 406 doesn't give such a good ride although its better than many modern cars but the handling is excellent. Both have the 2.0. 8 valve Hdi and are mostly original including clutches and DMFs.

Re: 2003 hdi c5 estate very rough ride quality
Just thought I'd update this thread after finally getting new tyres fitted to my C5. It's now wearing the Dunlops mentioned earlier in the thread and they are a huge improvement over the previous set of Coopers, being slightly smaller in width but with a higher sidewall. I talked to my insurance company about the change and they said they are fine with it.
The tracking was done at the same time and this showed up a problem with the lower balljoints, both of which were knackered, the drivers side being much worse than kerb side. I've changed the really nasty one, made easy by the purchase of the famous Clark impact driver, which wound it off, after I would guess, 10 seconds of hammering. What a great tool for the money, I'll probably never use it again after I've done the other side but it can sit on the shelf in the shed just in case. If anyone local to me wants to use it they're more than welcome.

Good you have made some progress, sounds like a combination of things. Tyres make more difference to ride and handling than pretty well anything else. You should have a better ride with those taller tyres.
