Multifunction Screen software

Post by teresam »

Having problems with the multifunction screen on my C5 2.2 hdi (2001). It comes on for short time and then just goes blank. I think it is a software problem as no faults show up on the Lexia and a couple of times "reprogramming" has flashed up on the screen just before it went blank.

Unfortunately, when I bought the car it didn't have the system disk with it (only the maps disk). I know the software can be downloaded but I am not sure what version I should be looking for. The Lexia shows it as "software version 8BD9, supplier VDO". It is the large colour screen.

I would be grateful for any advice.

Thanks Stempy, that would be really helpful. I tried to find it myself to save troubling you but not sure which is the correct file and don't want to mess it up completely by using the wrong one.

Loaded the new software - thanks Stempy. BUT still getting the same problem
I.e. the screen comes on for a few minutes when the ignition is first turned on and then goes black.
Oddly, it did stay on all the time the new s/w was loading to show progress.

Completed mystified as Lexia shows no faults. Any ideas?

Might just be the back lamps on the screen itself or the ballast units that drive them, I doubt that would show as fault code. It might have to be a case of removing the screen for testing.

Does the screen turn on and off properly at night when you select the instrument panel off mode with the panel lighting switch?

....and just to make matters worse, since changing the software the CD changer doesn't work properly - plays but can't change CDs, fast forward etc using the buttons on the radio

I'd try doing the BSI reset thing before going any further

Ideally needs to be in a garage and if the battery is at all suspect this should be charged overnight. A defective or discharged battery can cause a lot of headaches and may result it more problems after performing this procedure.

Drop the suspension to low (to prevent the pump running when you refit the battery).
Open the driver's window and remove the keys, close any doors.
Wait at least ten minutes, ideally half an hour.

Unclip the battery leads.
Short them together through a resistance - a festoon bulb is ideal - for a minute or so.
Short the battery leads together for a minute.

Wait at least half an hour.

Replace the battery and clip the leads on. Do not open the door or otherwise disturb the car.
Wait at least ten minutes.
Reach in through the window and put the sidelights on. Wait a few minutes, five to ten ideal.
Reach in and turn the ignition on but do not start the engine.
Hold lock button on key down for 10 seconds.
Remove key open & close door test central locking system.
Wait five minutes.
Start the engine and let it idle for five minutes.
Open the door, get in and operate the suspension buttons.

If all is well then you will need to retune the radio, reset the time and date, reset autolights and reset window controls.

One more question - is it possible to reset the BSI with a Lexia?

I think you can reinitialise with the Lexia but you will need the 4 digit code that it came with, then you will have to reset all the parameters.
