There shouldn't be any need to bleed at the injectors - the pump just fills the rail, then when pressure is reached, injection should begin. It might be that you haven't get enough diesel up to the pump, but if you just keep pumping the primer, that should rectify itself. If you could talk to the ECU you could see what the injection pressure is doing, but as you can't.... I pretty sure that's where you troubles lie, but I can't really think how you can resolve #-o

No harm in pleasing simple minds sometimes, even when they are wrong! :-)

Thanks again!
he is probably used to FIX OR REPAIR DAILY'S, or POXHALLS, as these always used to require the filter to be filled with fuel before and on fitting a new one,
and sometimes cracking off the ujector pipes

That only really applies to the 2.0 8V Mike, most, if not all, of the later ones have done away with the lift pump. The 1.6 certainly does without, and pretty sure the 2.0 16V (which has an HP pump driven direct of the other end of the cam shaft) does without.

My 2.2 C5 doesn't have a lift pump, I changed the fuel filter a couple of weeks ago and needed to squeeze the primer bulb to fill the filter.
