Citroen AX 14D Gear Linkage. There is loaaaads of play in the linkage when it's in gear. To say it's sloppy would be an understatement! I've had a quick look and most of the problem is due to play in the upper selector linkage that goes into the gearbox. I can't see how to get it off, is it a gear box strip job to sort this one out?? Opinions on this anyone.

Ya mean the selector rod protruding from the box has this large play ?
IIRC this rod is a simple bend with ball end for gear linkage connection - it sounds indeed fiddly to replace any worn bushings here.
I'd be definate it's the rod before deciding any repairs. The ball links can certainly be worn & very sloppy - but easy to replace.
Since your AX is a 14 model - it's the same basic engine & box found in the BX14 '88 on - which would be the type K1G engine & type 2CA gearbox.
These are easy to find info/documentation on from the web.
