he cant get it up ( C5 )

Post by citronut »

i had a guy come to me with an 51 C5 3.0 V6 auto estate today,

he says the suspension will not raise at all, although it has intermittently,

the car was parked up for nearly 10 years,

first thing i noticed is the LDS tank is not pressurised ,

i tried raising and lowering with the height switch but nout happened,

i now it has been said on here how to re/pressurise the tank but cant find/remember it

any help in the route to diagnose this car would be appreciated
Regards, malcolm.

Does the BHI pump make any noise when you try to raise it ? First port of call is to check the maxi fuse for the BHI, you need to lift up the under bonnet fuse box to access, the pump can start to seize & blow the fuse.
Any suspension warnings on the dash ? Any fault codes in the BHI.
Sometimes after draining the system you need to pressurise the system to get it to lift, you do it by using a normal cooling system pressure testing kit & pump it up to half a bar. Normally the pump needs to be running for this to work.

this morning when the owner started it up she rose to the correct height, and he drove it to my workshop still up when it arived,

so it seems the maxi fuse must be ok, and the pump can function,

so i stuck my DOS--LEXIA up it,
the only fault code on the suspension side of things was
P3551
"intermittent fault
steering wheel angle sensor"

after running through all the actuator tests on the suspension side

the only things showing as FAULTY were the front and rear
hydractive electro valves came up as

"FAULTY ACTUATION"

although running through the height corrector sequence only the back end sort of responded to a height change, but not full up or down

after all this she wont come up at all again

after standing stored for all that time I bet the suspension fluid is in a real mess the suspension spheres could also be completely flooded with fluid I don't know if this would affect the ability to rise though.
Citroen Xantia S2 1.9 TD estate 189K soon to be broken for parts Jan 2017 headlamps & radiator fan assembly already spoken for & A 1987 Citroen 2CV6 special just for fun.
New addition Citroen C5 2.0 HDi Exclusive Hatch purchased 09/12/2016 with 83K on the clock.

doubt it Nigel
as the car did rise as it should yesterday morning and drove to my workshop perfectly smooth,

also i would think this could only happen if the spheres became deflated
