I've been offered a C5, 2.0i petrol engined, with a snapped cambelt. Its a very low mileage, long MOT & quite tidy, so might be a worthy proposition if internal damage is not too bad. What is the likely damage to be? Bent valves, snapped cam caps, snapped camshafts?
I know what happens on the earlier TU engines, but not on these later DW lumps.

Don't know about petrol engines but on the 8 valve diesel it only usually breaks the rockers, not even a head off job.

A 2.0 petrol will be an EW engine not a DW, do you know if it's an HPi or not ? I would avoid an HPi like the plague even without a snapped timing belt.
Either way 99% chance of valve damage, cams & carriers normally ok.

When the belt went on my 16v bx I was lucky to get away with valves only, was a 50mph gentle acceleration from a 40 when it went,

Thanks for the info, chaps. Gone off the idea now, given the costs involved, as I was only going to buy it, sort it out & sell it on.

Pick a diesel one they are much easier - but only the 2.0. 8 valve.

Petrol C5's are completely worthless, so i'd save the effort as you'll be unlikely to find a buyer even at £500. The diesels are cheap anyway, so there's little demand for the petrol one's, which means if you were going to fix it to keep, then its a lot of car for little money.
