Strut top fitters/ Citroen fixers locally?

Post by reanimation »

Following from my queries on parts.
I'm wondering if anyone reasonably local is available to fit a strut top or future specialist related tasks? Phase1 Xantia D LX
I'm in Manchester, anyone close?

My regular mechanic might be able to do it, waiting to hear back, but its a weird science for most of them, and time is money right?
I'd have a go myself but a few reasons are putting me off along with it being my daily and only.

Thanks

I dunno if I'd make it there or not. Maybe. I'm in East Mancs not far from City Stadium. What I could do is attempt the job and if it goes wrong shout louder. Work space is tricky but I could make some, by shoving my Cortina out the way! Its a kind offer I might need!
Did you find any tops by the way. I'm pondering getting new Citroen, its pricey but new and cit garage near work.

Don't forget KingAS in Lithuania will refurbish what you have for 75 funny things plus VAT and carriage..

His turnaround is about two weeks but in early July I understand he's off on holiday for a couple of weeks.

Contact him, he's called Irmantas, at info@elastomer.eu

Are the Cit specialists (Paris something) in Stockport still going? Not too far away from you.

Google maps tells me Savoy in Altham near Accrington are 27 miles away from the Etihad if that's any use?

A few years back I replaced mine on the old VSX, I'm no mechanic, with limited tools, but with the excellent guides I found on the forum I did it in an afternoon. The hardest part was getting the plastic gaiters back on.

Thanks Citroenxm.

CitroJim, thanks when I briefly looked into this a while ago, I planned to get spares to send to KingAS, I've got two other options.

Sl4yer, thanks for that, so they are http://www.paris-autos.co.uk/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; I might well give these guys a shout...

Northern Mike, ah Savoy, this came up at Burnley. http://www.citroen-mechanics.co.uk/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; thanks

Isisalar Thanks, I probably could do it... I'd need to buy new axle stands plus it's my daily, plus I had an accident on my bike in march so still being careful using my right arm... I'm going to try these locals first, if I have to do it so be it. :)

I replaced the tops on my XM last week, it was pretty easy, aslong as the spheres come off easily then its within the realms of a home mechanic. Took about an hour to do both.

Thanks. I'm on the verge of finally completing my Cortina project (almost wish I'd never seen it! haha) if it was running I'd have a go.

Both Savoy Garage and Paris Autos have been back in contact very quickly it's a good sign. Savoy qouted me happy so i'm going to see about taking it up there I think. if I get to watch the work it might give me courage to do the other side myself, hopefully will have a spare car then...

So the Xantia has repaid me by spitting it's water out of the bottom hose at the engine end!! :S hot yesterday wasn't it!
I've upgraded my AA cover and going to see Savoy tomorrow... he sounds like a very knowledgable chap fingers crossed.
What will fall off this car now? Prace bets now!!!

It could be anything at all. They like to keep you guessing.

Just out of completeness really, the total cost of a pair of refurbe'd strut tops from KingAS worked out at £170 all-in.

How much are Xantia tops from Citroen now?

Malcolm at Savoy is great. He'll try to sell you at least 4 cars, but that's quite normal. Really knows his stuff.
