The ubiquitous DEPOLLUTION system faulty

Post by pinheadplanet »

Hi

After my recent service at Yeomans Citroen Fareham the car lost power a couple of times for a brief moment, hunted for a while and then went back to normal once it had warmed up. A short while later (days) the dreaded 'ping', actually it's more of a 'bong' noise came through the interior speakers and the dash displayed this Depollution system faulty warning. The car all seems OK having used it a half a dozen times since, but the warning comes up every time I start the car, along with of course the 'bong' warning noise.

Is it possible that there is no fault but the warning will come up every time until it is reset by Citroen? Or should I bite the bullet and take it back in to Yeomans. I'm reluctant as everytime it goes there something else suddenly needs doing...

Anyone around Southampton area have a machine I can hook it up to to get the fault codes (am I right in saying a Lexia?)? I saw there was a guy in Burley, New Forest but he's no longer listed on the latest map...

Any help is much appreciated.
Thanks
Kelv

Will it fail an MOT with this warning light on?

No - as long as the emissions meet the spec.

Is that what I think it is? A good trashing?

Actually I used to routinely give my last C5 a redex before it went for MOT...

Yep. On some diesel cars the DPF (Diesel Particulates Filter) can clog up over time if it doesn't get hot enough to enter a regen cycle. A good motorway blast can sort this out. I know your C5 is petrol, and I don't know if the same issue could arise.

It could also be worth servicing the car not long before the MoT. Amongst other things, changing the air filter should help with the emissions.

It was just serviced, it was that that seemingly caused the problem to appear...
