ZX 1.9td Question

Post by beko1987 »

Hi Chaps! Long time no speak!

Sorry for the abrupt question, but if one had to drive a 1.9td ZX back to oxford from weston super mare, with a failed alternator and dead battery, how would you recommend removing the stop solenoid?

I've asked on another forum, and they say remove the solenoid, jump her up and just dont stall/run out of petrol. Reading more shows that (on xantias, as I read it on here) there is a metal shield that wont come off without the pump off. I don't actually know what the 1.9td lump looks like in the ZX, anyone able to clarify the process to me?

Or, would taking the good battery from my XM alongand throwing it on fire her up with a dead alternator? Dont know how long it would last though, and happy to do the trip i nthe daytime so I dont need lights etc (hope it doesnt rain...)

Cheers for any help!

What you need to do is to remove the metal "slug" that is the moving part inside the solenoid, then once the engine is running it will not stop until stalled, sometimes the part you need to remove is captive inside the solenoid body in which case you are back to running total loss for the drive home, have fun. :)

Never mind rain! What about brake lights and indicators? Incredibly dangerous.

i dont know if this ZX has the pump immobilisers as on the diesel XANT, if it dosent you need to unscrew the s**t off solenoid take out the plunger from inside
( and the tinny spring )

then screw the solenoid back in, now jump start the car ( it is not advisable to BUMP!!!! start it being a diesel )

if indeed it has the immobilisers on the pump this can be removed in situe but it is time consuming, and fiddly

then again

this is a valid point

how far do you need to drive it, can you take the dead battery off and charge it up before the trip ???????, if so you will then have two batteries for your trip,

and yes it will run with a dead alternator all the while you have battery current

Thanks for the replies. This didnt happen in the end due to it going far higher than I wanted to pay, but the plan became simpler when someone said to just take a charged battery, so I had planned to take the battieres from mine and my partners car, and just go easy on all things electrical. Was 112 miles.

But all pointless now! Although I have found another one which isnt on an auction listing. Anyone want an XM Estate soon?
