51 plate c5 estate got a mind of its own

Post by tim456 »

Hi guys, I pulling my hair out with my c5 playing silly beggers. Whilst driving on the weekend my rear tailgate window popped open on its own. Its the first time its opened since ive owned the car as I havent got round to fixing the opening switch for it yet. Since then when I use the unlock button on the key fob the lights flash but car stays locked. I can open the drivers door with the key but both back doors stay locked and both rear electric windows no longer work. I sat in the car and pressed the deadlock button anf I was locked in and couldn't get out! I had to put the drivers window down hang out of the car and unlock the door. Ive followed the bsi reset procedure and ive checked all fuses but still the same problem. Any help where to look? Many thanks...Tim

Is the battey all good? Battery might start the car but could have bad cells, poor battery can cause electrical problems. Go to a garage and get it tested.

Can I test it myself with a multimeter which I have?

You could but a garage should have a proper tester which gives a print out.

Have one a work which give a result for battery, charging and cranking.

Booked an auto electrician to have a look monday but they are never cheap. Oh well rather spend the money than risk having a crash and me being stuck inside...

From what I have read on the forum, the BSi is the chassis ECU. I have had a look on e-bay, and they are going from around £15 - £150. I don't know what is involved in changing the BSi, but it could be worth looking on e-bay yourself (as you know the model type, engine size, etc.).

Sold the car today to someone who wants to use it as a van and just bought another newer c5 vtr hatchback. Hoping to have better luck with this one...
