Buying a Lexia... any versions to avoid?

Post by lankytim »

Hi all,

I'm keeping an eye out for a Lexia so I can keep my naughty XM in check. I found this one online,

http://www.dx.com/p/pp2000-v23-25-lexia ... iscussions" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

...but I have no idea if it's any good or if it has a full range of features. Someone on the XM forum mentioned that the FCF had a discussion on the different versions and which were the best but I can't find it.

Any advice for a Lexia noob?

The main question to ask them is 'What version of Diagbox does it support?'. If it goes past V5.29 it has the more recent firmware on-board. Some Chinese clones got blacklisted, and cannot work above 5.29.

Ask them via an e-mail, as then you have it in writing.

I notice from the description that it doesn't mention it works with C5's which is usually an indicator that it isn't very reliable or the latest version.
I bought my version last year from Jim at http://www.easydiagnostics.co.uk" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; and he's more than happy to chat you through it if you're unsure what it is you're getting. (and No, I'm not connected to him, just happy to recommend something that I have found worked really well for me)
Yes, it'll cost you around £130 but in my view it's worth it. After all, I presume you want one so that you can save yourself pound notes by not having to take the XM to the garage. I've probably saved more than the cost already with mine.
Good luck

I know someone who will let me use their Lexia but they live 15 miles away and I don't want to bother him with every fault that crops up (and to be fair, there are a few at the moment) That's my main reason for wanting a lexia of my own.

In the question/review section someone mentions that it doesn't list C5s but another reckons it does.

I'm not what version if Diagbox it uses, but at that price I can't see it being the latest.

It not so much if it uses the latest version of Diagbox, it is if it will go past version 5.29, hence my suggestion you e-mail them and ask.

There's one on ebay that goes up to V7.36 but doesn't like C5s!

That version number looks good. It also has the XM/S1 Xantia cable.

Looks alright, but it doesn't have the old style 30 pin plug that's needed for old bangers like my XM.

Mine did although I bought about a year ago and wasn't from his present site, maybe he still does best to email him I suppose.

I'd recommend making your own 30 pin connector. The Chinese one fits so poorly it compromises the connection. You can buy a female OBD with tail for a few pounds, and salvage enough from two genuine 30 pin harness interconnects, to get a good result.

As I don't think I will use it more than a couple of times I am happy to contribute to the cost of one if you live at Bristol area.
