2.0 hdi berlingo very flat

Post by leeroy99 »

hi there,i own a 2004 2.0 hdi pug 307 & it goes really well,the brother in law been buying a citroen berlingo 2.0 hdi & its as flat as a fart? its got loads of service history & just been serviced oil/filt f/f & a/f & also two botels of forte thru it.
when you come to a slight bank the car just doesn't pull & you have to gear down as if its not boosting?
looking over the back of the engine it looks very oily along I assume the inlet or some sort of turbo pipes,he has a caravan to pull & very worried,do you think it would be worth getting it re-maped ?
also are all the 2.0 hdi 90 bhp ?
thanx for any info lee :lol:

No, some are 110bhp.
It sounds like the classic MAF failure to me but in view of the oil it could just be air leaks.
My current C5 was very much like that when I bought it.
Cleaning out all the pipes & tightening up the throttle cable made a huge difference, then replacing the holed intercooler improved it again.
You have checked the air and fuel filters I presume?

All the 2.0 HDI Berlingo passenger vehicles up to 2007 are 90BHP. I think all the vans were too.

Sounds like the MAF - swap the one off one of your cars (10 mins) to see if things improve. It might not be an exact fit but it will be close enough for test.

You could really do with getting it on a Lexia, this will tell you what the boost pressure is, and what the air flow is, which will point the finger. I would swap the MAF with one of one of your other cars - it takes moments and will give an instant answer - the symptoms fit, and failure is common, whereas turbo failure on this engine is rare to non-existant. If that doesn't work then you need to get it on Lexia and have a look at few things.

A Lexia is a diagnostics tool used to check various functions, faults and operating parameters on a Citroen or Peugeot car. Normally dealerships charge a fee to do a diagnostics session, but some members of the forum have Lexia clones, and can offer to help. Try looking on this list;
