Post by shahidocean »

guys any body know what rating the speakers are for the synergie

2 back 165 mm rear

wondering how if i got something like this

how to know what rating to get the tweets and mids i'm assuming like 50w per speaker but that's based on 4 speakers

The power rating that is given is more than likely the peak power output. The relevant figure is the RMS or average power output. This Kenwood unit is unlikely to have 50W rms output per channel. The maximum current draw on most of these units is about 10 Amps. At a supply voltage of 14.2 Volts this gives a maximum of 142 Watts. Assuming an efficency of 80% which would be excellent this leaves us with 114 Watts or 28.5 watts per channel. The speakers in the car are probably more than up to the job. Even cheapie 6" (150mm) speakers have a power handling capability of over 100W peak. Most of the sub woofers are rated by peak power and have quite low RMS outputs. Again the power fuse gives the game away. They are usually supplied with power leads that have thick translucent insulation loosely fitted over light copper conductor. this is to make the cables look really impressive but cheap to produce. plastic is cheap copper costs money. If you take a feed directly from the battery make sure to fuse it at the battery. The synergie usually has DC power points in the rear designed to supply 10Amps. I can hear the screams already about the dangers of using them and how this will blow up the sub, wreck the sound and burn the vehicle. i can check to see if there is a convenient grommet which can be used to take a power lead through the firewall.

To be honest, I would just replace speakers first if you do not need the new head unit. It is the speakers that make many in - car sound system sound terrible. My car, a 2003 Berlingo. . The same. Sound terrible. New speakers only. Now sound good.

You can pick up a 15a supply from the cigar lighter socket.
