What to salvage? Xantia Estate 2.1 VSX.

Post by Old-Guy »

I've got to scrap the blue Xantia ('98 S1 2.1 VSX Estate) as I've nowhere to keep the car for more than a few weeks and only limited space to store bits - and also limited spare time to strip off parts.

I'm maintaining a list on the For Sale & Wanted board for the more valuable items, but it occurred to me that I'd feel as sick as a parrot if I failed to salvage something that is easily removable, commonly breaks and which I or somebody else is in dire need because it's NFP.

I feel somewhat guilty in scrapping one of the rarer variants, so I'm not just thinking of bits which I might need.

Suggestions please (I've access to service.citroen to check part numbers).

I've already thought of the door switches (both the window switches and the ones that operate the interior lights etc.)

Guy, DOnt waste time remove Window Switch's, Ive TONS of them, and no one wants them, the micro switch technology seem to be indestructable! Ive not sold ANY of mine, or had anyone ask for them..

Dash switchs also seem very strong on Xantias too!!! HOWEVER, Steve trainman will want the dash part that houses the Clock and Hazzard switch and Air Con Fan holder, just under the Vents...

He sure does, he also would like the air con fan that sits just beside the centre vents with the LED in it, I'm also after the steering wheel shroud if it has cruise, just one things, is the plastic black or grey, because I need black for mine.

I don't suppose it would have a 'trailblazer' surrounding the rear number plate, this reflective panel that's matches the colour of the lights?

Jim - Electrovalves. I'll save them if I can, but I won't have the use of a lift when striping her. Not quite as easy on axle stands I'm guessing. The height control mechanisms are pretty tired, but I might save them anyway. Checking part numbers, I noticed with surprise that the mounting bracket for the A/S sphere is still available! Next time I have to order something from Citroen, I might add one to the order.

Paul - thanks for the heads-up on the switches, though I want the driver's door window switch and an interior light switch from (say) the O/S/R door to replace the very iffy one for the Green lady's driver's door.

Trainman - The A/C sensor fan isn't in the best of condition though I have had it out and cleaned out 15 year's-worth of dust and fluff. No cruise so I guess the shrouds are the wrong ones. I'll save them anyway as they often get broken. I was going to save the column stalk switches even though the indicator switch has the usual problem.

One small irony - the VSX needed a drop-link to get through the MoT lat June. Intending to keep it for no more than 3 or 4 months, I economised with the cheap option from GSF. I'll save it as it's only done a 3-4,000 miles, but now of course I wish I'd bought a Lemforder!

That's OK the one I have now rattles a bit, and I rather have a couple of spares, what about the wood trim where the clock is? Mine is damaged so looking to replace it.

Mine does (it's plastic wood rather than the real thing but it's a Citroen not an old Rover!). Trainman's name on the complete assembly, just got to work out how to remove without damage; the radio is out so that probably makes it easier.

Prize the vents out guy theres two t10 torx in there..

remove the steering colum shrouds and the plastic trim to the right of the shrouds of the colum remove all t20 torx screws.. the trim infront of the clocks above the shrouds needs to come away first before the vents do..

some screws hidden under the wood area I think

wood was added to vsx only in late 1997 early 1998 so quite scarse on vsx models...

all exclusives had it..
