C5 Tourer Exclusive Rear Suspension Drop

Post by jpn369 »

Driving at speed today the rear suspension decided to drop.
I pulled over depressurised the system and check the fluid level which was fine.
I was able to get the suspension all round up to the mid position and the high position, it seems to be happy to lower to normal, but as soon as I drove off it dropped at the back down again.
No warning lights came on at any point during this.

Is that the same kind of drop you can initiate by the switch in the back (near ther 12v socket, on the right side of the car ... above the subwoofer or compartment area)?

I suppose it's not possible that somehow that button is activated during the drive? Would it be possible to test that, say you drive, while someone other in the tail activates the drop button, to see what will happen? ... I know it sounds stupid but maybe you can see if the result is the same to your problem... I would guess this shouldn't be possible, like when you start moving the boot get's automatically locked, maybe the protection to that button is off, or something along those lines ...

With the tailgate closed the car should automatically level to normal ride height.
Software glitch or damaged height corrector?

A BSI reset might fix it, failing that a Lexia session if the height corrector appears undamaged.

Disconnect the battery for a while.
This is the procedure..

Note that I had to use a modified/shortcut procedure a couple of weeks ago and while I pretty much got away with it with only minor eccentricities showing afterwards it was rather fraught.
Be sure that the battery is fully charged before reconnecting.

If by height corrector you meant what Citroen refers to as the Rear body height sensor then you win the prize Myglaren.
Link rusted through.

My guess is that those sensors also regulate the beam level of the xenons, no?

When you replace the link, be sure to get it the right way round, or you'll be puzzled by the car oscillating up and down

So I have read.
For those not initiated in removing the broken link, it is held in place by a plastic grommet so you can be quite brutal in the removal.

Citroen dealership didn't have this part on the shelf!
I would encourage anyone with an early Tourer Exclusive i.e. 2008-09 to check their body height link as it is likely that it will be rusting like mine.

I had similar problems too, but little bit lubrication at local garage sorted it out. It´s very easy job to do now that I know how, and should be done regularly (read once a year) to prevent problems. Remember to put some additional support for protection under car when doing this though...
