A/C pump + alternator compatibility Xantia TD to HDI

Post by John Plum »

Do you know if either an A/C pump or, alternator from a Xantia TD would fit a Xantia HDI?

Cheers,
John

John,

There are 2 makes of a/c pumps fitted it depends on year of car and type of car.

Sanden or delhpi Ihave a 99 2.0 HDI 90 hp and it s a delphi. There is plastic id slip on the delphi pump with a number on it.

I'll quickly check for you.

TD and HDi altinators are not the same, the mouting brackets are different.

However, EITHER Air Con Pump will fit to either engine.. the difference is pully size I beleve, so it will simply need a longer, or shorter belt. With both configs available you should be able to achive it.

Im trying to recall if there is a difference on your late TD XUD altinator and 110 HDi one..

In saying what I said above, one Compressor is slightly LONGER in the body to the other, so the pipes on the end might not reach round enough if swapping a shorter body for a longer body compressor.

From what I've found searching for a replacement compressor there are 2 manufacturers (Delphi and Sanden) and two types of pipe fitment (individual 32mm nuts or a plate that holds the pipes on).
The difference between the makes is where the spacers go on the mounting bolts to align it with the other pulleys, and possibly the pulley size but on fitting a different compressor to Cassy it uses the same size belt.
If you've got the two separate pipes set up then it may be best to fit the pipes first then mount the compressor to the engine making sure it's lined up with the other pulleys.

Theres two Sorts of Compressors, BUT Two of the Second Sort Xac.

The R134 Compressor with the two SEPERATE connectors was onlyused for a short time, from 1996 to 1997, then they changed to the sort with the Single bolt.

The Two compressors of this type are Saden and Delphi.. The ID is easy to spot too. But im not sure which way round the makes are. One compressor has what I call a Plit Body where one side fits OVER the other half. The other compressor body halfs are of equal sizes .. I find these a better compressor and less prone to leaks between the two halfs..

So the Xantias S1's and 2's have had three types. One unique, the other two compatible.

Here is one type:Sanden: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/CITROEN-C5-XS ... 41609c5262" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

and the Delphi one: (Ignore the price LOL) http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/DELPHI-AIR-CO ... 43c404174c" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

A/C pump + alternator compatibility Xantia TD to HDI

Thanks,
Good to know then AC compressor mounts are the same.

The ID tab is worn and so, illegible. As soon as i tried to clean it with a damp cloth, the script wore away!
Going by the general shape as ID, particularly the way the ID sticker is set, both of mine are a Delphi, and so should swap over, with the single bolt.
Edit: yeah,I can see the letters 5290 on it, so it is Delphi.
(I didn't go by belt length at takeover because they are frequently the 'wrong' ones, as in my case both times,ie a 1735mm belt for Sanden, Instead of 1750 for Delphi but I get these on OK with the eccentric tensioner. ).

I'm going to look closer at the alternator mounts between HDI and late TD (year 2000) and compare them. At a cursory glance, they look like they could match...

Regards
John

You're right Paul. The alternator seems to be incompatible as a swap over, judging by inspection of mountings with units still in place.
The Delphi AC pump is identical mounting, I've found upon removal.

Yea ALL Air COn pumps mount identically, theres just a difference in the overall body length, and the "Earlyer" Air COn pump in 1994-7 with two seperate connections for the Freon Pipes.
