sat nav in mk3 C5 Saloon

I have just bought a 2009 59 plate C5 saloon VTR+ with sat nav which is a weird item after using a windscreen mounted one first is the arrow pointing where your going can go top to bottom or right to left or any other way. I believe its pointing due north all the time so depending which way your travelling makes the arrow go in that direction. Is this the only way it operates or is there a way to set it to go from bottom to top like a mounted one or is this how it is. Also is it lane directional which highlights the lane you want to be in when there are more than one lane hope you can shed some light on this for me. taxidriver
