Just got a C3 1.4HDi 92hp

Post by kentc5 »

Hello guys,

Just picked up a C3 1.4HDi 92hp ... a really nice little car, spacious and comfy to drive.
It has a few problems, need your opinion on possible causes.
There is no service history on the car what so ever.

It has 111.000miles on the clock.

It has difficulty starting...
Once it starts it works fine on idle, no smoke or anything else.

Might take about 10secs cranking to start sometimes.

I think there is a broken spring on the front as I can hear noises when I turn the steering.

When I accelerate I seem to hit the limiter?? at 3200rpm?, having this funky speedo I have no clue where the redline is meant to be.

1st , 2nd seem to have loads of power but revs will not go more than 3200rpm.
3rd-4th-5th ... lack power... and the car will not go more than 85mph...
Being in 5th acceleration is very slow from 60-to 70 lets say....

Could this be MAF?
Turbo???

I do not see excessive smoke on the back when I accelerate, after a motorway journey the car smokes like it has no problem at all.

Cheers in advance.
Vasilis.

Well done on your choice of car, I really rate the C3 hdi, they are very fast & economical usually.
They rarely suffer from Maf issues, so hard to say what your problem is. Lexia is your friend with one of these, sometimes the fuel lines can wear through, causing the difficult starting.
I would do a search for someone nearby with Lexia.

Cheers Lighty
Thinking to keep it for a few months pay for it self... and then move on to another one lol but before I start using it I was to sort it out :)
It is in the same colour our C5 used to be, dark metallic blue with a lighter blue interior. I had no clue they had automatic climate control in them :) nice surprise

Guys Anyone with a Lexia in SE Kent, Medway, Canterbury, Margate area... :) :) :)

I could not resist ... so went out and plugged in my ELM327 bluetooth and did a trouble code scan...
here is the result

Stored Faults
P0002
P0089
P1207
P1351
P0401

Pending Faults
P0401

I just cleared them all ... will start the engine tomorrow ... too noisy to start cranking in the middle of the night lol

Hi.

Hope your enjoy your C3.

From experience of snapping front springs on a C3, I think you'd REALLY know if one was broken - it will be visible from the ride height, and the noise when driving will be horrible. Seems to be a common fault unfortunately.

The C3 is a great little car if it keeps going. Unfortunately ours keeps running up big bills...

Well I installed back the EGR, sprayed the EGR cleaner treatment as instructed on the bottle.
I installed a new air filter.

I have noticed that when I rev the car stationary, it will rev all the revs up to close 5000rpm with no hesitation.
But when I am on the move, it will not go more than 3000rpm
And sometimes will go to 2000rpm... and very slowly to 3000rpm.

I checked for codes and I had P1002 and P1207

The EGR code is not there anymore.

Change the fuel filter first off - these engines are senstive to loss of suction side pressure here....

Hello guys,

I did change the fuel filter, and checked if it will make any difference. But nothing much.

It puzzles me that it will rev without a problem once stationary and neutral up to the limiter.
and also
1st gear will accelerate like a rocket! (8 out of 10 times...) and will hit the ? limiter just about 4500rpm??
2nd gear ... it is hit or miss with acceleration sometimes will go fast... sometimes will go slow and up to 4000.... then stay steady there... other times will go up to the limiter.
3-4-5th gears... now that interesting... accelerating will be slow 1mph-3mph increase per second...and will stay at 3000rpm will deny to go higher than that...
Top speed of the car seems to be 80ish MPH....?

I would not think it is injectors as this would cause a problem all the time with acceleration plus load of smoke!
The car does not smoke and seems healthy on the exhaust output. The only smoke that will come out will be a small and short amount of dark black smoke on high revs... but it will stop after a couple of seconds. (like all the diesels do).

I am tending to think it might be the HDI Fuel Pump Regulator Sensor, or the High Pressure Pump it self? it is a Delphi system. And the engine is the 1.4HDi 16V 92bhp.

Has anyone come accross similar problems?

Is the High Pressure Pump under the fuel filter? I cannot seem to be able to find the repair book for this car to download :(
Cheers
Vasilis.
