Hi,
In a new (for me ) xantia, I received vehicle with a switched bypass on the blower - so that the dash slide control is bypassed.
Likely some fault with the slider methinks. What could that have been?
I aim to restore proper heating, Suspect it also cuts out the AC.
Pointers/advice much appreciated, to arm myself with, before tackling it.
Cheers,
John

On my old 405, the solder joints on the circuit board behind the slider had cracked. Re-touched then with a solder iron and back in business.

Re: Xantia heater slide control bypass
Could be a bodge when the blower started playing up due to the ignition switch failing.
Mechanics assume the slider is failing and bodge in a switch.
Or it could be the transistors have blown on the blower so it's got on and hurricane modes only, again to many this would look like a slider fault.

Ah Xac, that is the kind of information I was suspecting: armed with that info I can investigate much more easily,

Re: Xantia heater slide control bypass
As it's a MK2, the ignition switch is not a problem - they were fitted with a relay at the factory to take the load off. However, they do suffer from loss of power supply to the blower (and the AC) - there's a long thread by DHallworth about it. You need to track down the relay in the fuse box above the throttle pedal, and see if it has got 12V on the power supply pin, and the switching feed (when the ign is on) - David's lost the power feed, and mine lost the swtiching feed. If the AC switch is not lit up, then it's likely the power feed. Of course you will need to have a look and see how far the bodge has gone - if all the wiring is chopped out, then getting it work properly again might be a challenge....

AC light comes on. With just two black wires to a visible switch, appears to be a simple takeoff from slide control to motor: Shall dismantle. inspect further when able shortly, after initial jobs on this xantia which I've just taken over.
This information you've given me is most important or useful with which to proceed at that time. Can't thank you enough Richard - I try.
I aim to do this heater in one go, not have it all lying about.
Shall report back.

Ok sorted the problem out: blower speed control module had died . That had been by-passed on the black power supply cable before the brown plug to black on the motor itself, with a switch inserted.
All back in place with new speed control, and working fine
- Except the motor bearings squeaks a bit a slow speed.
Q. Is it possible to lubricate these somehow?
