Xantia heater matrix - O ring seals

Post by CitroenCrazy »

Hi All

I'm planning to replace the heater matrix in my "Sunday best" Xantia this weekend.

I've read the sage advice from a number of archive posts on the subject (thanks Jim !!) and ordered the O ring seals (part number 6564V1) from the local dealer.

He's just rung me back to say they are no longer available.

Presumably they are just O rings, so easy to find in the general parts market.............as long as the size is known.

In the good old days, Citroen parts manuals would helpfully provide the dimensions as part of the description, but alas no longer.

I don't suppose anyone out there is able to say what the required measurements are, please, so I can get some ahead of the weekend.

TIA

Andrew

Ive NEVER needed to use replacement seals and ive done a good few matrixs.. so personally id not worry about changing them unless they have a knick in them or something..

Hi, when I changed heater matrix I recovered old O rings. I think you can use old O rings...at my xant even after 17 year O rings are good and I have no leak.
When you connect the elbow connector in the new heater matrix put some grease on O rings.
Good luck!

Juliet blows the pipes off if I try and use o rings. Seals perfectly without then strangely enough.

Ahh, confusion and chaos reigns

First of all, I mis-keyed why typing the reference number into the original post. As Malcolm has pointed out, the O ring reference is 6464 V1

I did, however, give the Dealer parts man the right number, and he keyed it in wrong. He came up with something that cost 40p but isn't available.

So, the proper part, 6464 V1 is indeed still on sale chez Citroen, and for what it's worth, it has an external diameter (circumference) of 27mm and a thickness of 2.5mm.

Apologies all for the confusion.

If you buy a Valeo matrix (which I recommend you do) it will come with the correct O rings. Does the Xantia have the same arrangement as the 406?

ps.

here are the part No.'s for the 406 range

6448 77
NFP
CAR HEATER
TURBO DIESEL XUD9TE AND RIGHT HAND DRIVE UNTIL RPO 07980

6448 G9
RIGHT HAND DRIVE SINCE RPO 07981

and it shows the 406 matrix sliding in from the side of the heater box rather than the top, as XANT's do

I bought new matrix for my S1 a few years ago from local Citroen dealer, and the O rings were a separate item on the invoice, so I asume in my case that they weren't automatically supplied as part of the matrix (don't know if it was a Valeo)

the dealer does list the O rings as separate item's to the matrix,

but i think if you bought a Valeo matrix from the factors the seals are usually included

Alas no. Or at least not any more. The Valeo matrix I picked up from the local factors yesterday is an O ring free zone.
