Repairing plastics on bumpers?

Post by waynedance »

The black lower part of my front bumper has some scuffing and was thinking of having ago at fixing.

I do not want to make it worse, has anyone sanded this sort of plastic, filled or painted it?

What would be the best way to fix?

Can't imagine why this hasn't come up before (if it hasn't!).
I should think we all have such scrapes on our bumpers, I know mine does,
but all my other jobs mean I never quite get to it.
However, if I do manage to have a go I'd do a standard file-down or orbital
sander to remove the rough scuffs, then some wet or dry, getting finer - it
does seem to be black right through, not just coated.
Sorry I haven't actually done it.

Done this myself, take of the high bits but do not polish out the deep scratches. Plasticized prime it, sand back, prime again until these scratches and filled. They help the adhesion. Really deep ones can be filled a bit with filler if needed....then paint normally.

Would you need to paint whole section or just part with black spray?
