'97 XM Siren Isolator

Post by rg »

Folks,
I understand that most XMs had a lock installed under the bonnet which, when activated by the ignition key, isolated the alarm siren.
This was, so I understand, by the offside headlight main beam on an individual bracket.
Mine has only a relay there, but no lock barrel.
It's a '97 2.5 VSX.
Was this feature removed on later XMs, or am I missing something? Or was it relocated?

Sorry I can't help with the possibility of it being removed. Certainly on my '95 2.5TD VSX it is located just behind the drivers side (RHD)headlight on a flat bracket. The bracket is held in place by the same three rivets as hold the relay bracket in place and is secured to the black plastic apron. I have one relay fitted to the bracket with three spare holes. The wiring from the switch is contained in the same sub-loom as the siren itself which is located behind the bumper.
I've looked at the wiring diagrams for the late models and it says it is fitted. However, the diagrams for the early models don't show the switch.
I suspect this won't help much.
Cheers anyway

Noz,
Thanks anyway.
It appears that was deleted on later models due to insurance being void if it was activiated. So says Paul Johnson at XM Centre
Thanks again.

On later Xantias, you can disable the alarm siren by pressing the button on the dash with the ignition on for a couple of seconds - don't know if the same applies to the XM though! Required for service, since the alarm goes off if you disconnect the battery....

Richard,
Thanks.
Do you mean the button which isolates the "movement detector" (air pressure sensor?) in the cabin?
On the XM this stops the alarm being set off if, for example, you have left a dog in the cabin.

That's the one. Can't remember what you have to do - it's in Haynes though - will look later if no one steps in mean time.

Haynes says:
"..by pressing and holding the switch until the alarm LED starts flashing."
No mention of ignition on or off.

Richard,
Thanks very much.
Haynes not well thought-of by serious XM D.I.Y-ers, btw.
