Hi All
You may recall I replaced the boots on the tie rods on my Xantia (I say replaced, they'd been missing for years and didnt realise), as well as changing the tie rods and tie rod ends. All new. But ever-worse knocking noises are coming from the steering column as I turn to the left or the right from the centre.
I suspected a damaged rack (especially since it was without boots for so long.. until muggins realised )- and this has been confirmed by a diagnosis by the local Peugeot garage.
They suggest I buy a second hand rack from the breakers and they'll install it for 120€.
What would the forum suggest? Should I do this job myself? is it easy?
Help very much appreciated as ever
Larry
ps Wrapping went pretty well, although I've still got the roof to do... see pics:

Lazza,
To replace the rack is not a hard job but does require patience.
I did it on my previous 1.9TD mk 2.

Ok thanks
Can anyone give me any pointers on how I go about it? I'd rather trust you guys than Haynes
