2.0hdi 16v Dispatch or 1.6hdi Berlingo?

Post by bxzx16v »

I maybe looking at getting another van soon and I was torn between a new shape Citroen dispatch with the 2.0hdi in 120bhp form or a new shape 1.6hdi Berlingo, both with minimal miles on. I'm swaying towards the dispatch due to its extra space. The berlingo is a contender due to being able to get a slightly newer one for the same price as a dispatch, my only concerns are there's seems to be a few issues with the 1.6hdi. Any opinions gladly welcome.

There do seem to be plenty of problems with under-maintained 1.6 HDi,s. Loads of threads on the forum about them. Specified distances for oil changes are far too generous. Also an oil filter fitted that exacerbates the problem.
With a commercial vehicle that may even be worse due to the stop-start driving that many of them do. Probably less of a problem with those driven relatively long distances each time they are used.

I would think if you are buying minimal miles the turbo problem wouldn't bother you Mark. It's lack of maintenance that kills them, so if minimal miles then you would know how to maintain it, i.e. change oil twice as often as Citroen say and check the injectors that can work loose then it should be fine. Myself would prefer a dispatch due to it's higher driving position, but that would mainly be for me goosed back.

It will more than likely be the dispatch but trying to find one with the 2.0hdi engine in silver or metallic grey could be fun, I really don't want a white one .

My understanding of the problem regarding the 1.6 is the small filter that fits inside the turbo pipe, this becomes blocked & the turbo fails, get that pipe removed & get the filter out & the turbo will then be fine. Stupid design imho.
