Citroen Picaso Xsara 1.6.HDi 90 HP (91k miles) - Cam belt re

Post by rustbucket »

Millage now 91K, hand book says 150 K or 10 Years( a bit too long for me thinks), Heynes book says 150 K or halve this if start / stop use. Citroen Garage says should be done soon. My thinking is agree with Citroen Garage. Would be interested in knowing what other members opinions are or if any other 1.6Hdi 90 HP users have had their cam belts changed and at what millage.

Thanks.

There are millions of these units in service, yet I haven't heard of a single cam belt failure, so I wouldn't worry too much about it. Is it noisy? This seems to be a common problem on this engine. Not heard of anyone on here doing one (except LIghty who does it for a living). I've read the procedure in Haynes and it doesn't sound too hard - that it's a relatively compact engine, and there appears to be quite a bit of room around the end of the engine probably helps. I may well do our C4 Picasso in the summer, as it's noisy....

Simple belt compared to many, we change loads, as they get noisey with age, in fact I have one to change tomorrow, and another next week.
My Peugeot dealer said the interval was reduced to 106000, never really sure, but it never hurts to go early.
Main thing is NEVER TURN THE ENGINE BACKWARDS , NOT EVEN A LITTLE BIT :D

Yes, I always tend to change the pump, although, it don't remember ever seeing one leak.
