C5-2006 Rear suspension keeps dropping

Post by Rochy101 »

Hello ,
I am as always great full for any advise as a novice to whys where's and now hows on a C5.
We recently bought a 2006 model 1.6Hdi Estate 113k on the clock and all was well, a week or so I noticed that the rear of the car was on the deck. What's weird is I open the door any door and the car starts to crank up the suspension and all is well again for about 5 mins.
This only happens when we turn off the engine and with in 5 mins it starts to lower only on the back. I have the same model on an 05 plate and he stays up no issues.

I look forward to you comments and thank you for you help in advance.

There are a pair of electro-valves that allow the suspension to lower when required and my guess is that the one for the rear is sticking open.
Don't know where they are located but have a feeling that it is close to the pump.
Alternatively it could be a leaking ram seal. You could confirm this by checking for excessive fluid in the rear ram gaiters.
There should be a little in there as the rams are designed to leak slightly.

no signs of fluid underneath, but I think I need Sir David Attenbrough to help in finding these Electro-valves. I have the Haynes manual but nothing exactly about this...cheers for now

hi my own c5 2007 used to sit down on its rear over night as the myglaren has said it could be the electro valves but in my case it was the rear ram seals on one side leaking i put a detailed account on here but as im no expert on the pc i will do it again ,this way it will tell you if its the rear rams . if it is the rams it will go down slowly over time ,to find out put your car up on ramps (rear end ) put the suspension in high on the gaiters on the rams there is two small plastic pipes two to each ram if you pull them out you will find one is a breather and only goes in to the chassis the other is the return pipe which returns any oil that leaks from the ram seals and returns it to the reservoir so if they leak you would not see any oil on the floor put a small pipe in to the gaiter and the other end in to a bottle do that to both sides and wait till the car goes down look at the bottles and if they are both empty its the electro valve if on the other hand one bottle is nearly full of oil then that would tell you its that ram seal ,seals are very easy to replace and can be done with out taking the ram off. good luck .

Had a quick took today under the engine bay and there seems to be a large hose coming out of the pump I think on the left hand side dribbling from the joint. I have wiped it clean and i shall wait until the car drops again and test until Im sure. It never rains - it pour latley...
