Post by froggy »

Hi, my S1 Xantia, I have just noticed very fine water droplets , high up in the passenger footwell. my question is ; is the only place the water can leak through.....the scuttle ? or are their other places ? thanks in advance Terry. matrix is ok.

Could the air conditioning drain tube be blocked ? If it is, whenever you use the air conditioner and it is extracting moisture from the air it will dribble down the back and onto the floor.

Or is it only happening when it rains ?

water ingress

I've had the problem twice.
First time, after being parked near fir trees, the passenger-side windscreen gutter drain ( at the extreme right of scuttle, looking towards the windscreen) was blocked with fit needles. If you pour a little water directly into the head of this drain, through the plastic mesh, it should drain into the wheel arch behind the passenger front wheel. If its blocked, it overflows into the heater matrix area, toward the centre if the gutter. To clear it out, poke something like a flexible 1 metre long 8mm tube into the drain hole there. Retest.

Second time it was with an unsealed scuttle, following its removal.

Yes it was clogged up with debris ! gave good clean :) this looks like a great spot for ROT ! I reached underneath the plastic gaurd, to find lots of muck ! probably a good idea to remove plastic gaurds ,clean and waxoil ? rubbish from roads seem to find their way past the gaurds to the wing ! :( cheers Terry.

Good news. :-)
Yes, the question of rot occurred to me when I discovered this problem.
However, it seems to be well protected, somehow - no early signs of rot, on a 14 year old.

I think cleaning it out should be part of yearly maintenance though, with a due care and a fast water jet perhaps. Otherwise the guards would need removing to use a cloth.

Those mudguards, well I have them on my new Xantia. I didn't have them on my previous one. They look good I think. But on not sure they're useful, and worry about them as a trap creating a permanent dampness.
Maybe better without them.

John
