Blowing of steam

Post by SHILTON »

my 1.6 bx has suddenly taken to doing impressions of a steam engine, all of a sudden steam(?) started to pour from the exhaust pipe and was accompanied by the radiator low water warning light coming on would I be correct in assuming that my head gasget has gone.
Also if water was present in one of the cylinders when the engine was cold and the fact that water is not compressable stop the engine from turning over.

Head Gasket has gone. I doubt very much if the head gasket leak would cause enough water to get into the combustion chamber and cause the engine to lock up.

But if it does, it'll bust a rod or crack the head.

Yep it can sure cause a lot of damage. Worked at vauxhall garage ages ago on work experience and they had a vauxhall corsa 1.7d, that had sucked water into the combustion chamber and bent the con rods and damaged the pistons.
