Upgrade Plastic/Rubber pipes to Silicone

Post by xantiagreen »

2001 Xantia Hatchback 110 Hdi

I was thinking of replacing most or all of the pipes under the bonnet, checked on demon tweeks website but all looks confusing as it does not come up with all the necessary pipes or which are for the xantia. Has anyone changed their pipes to silicone ones, I'm thinking more down the lines of replacing them so no trouble in future with split pipes etc.. How many pipes are there altogether that can possibly be changed over.

Anyone recommend a good chip tuning or tuner (or is a remap better) in Preston Lancashire or nearby for the 110 Hdi or is it pointless, I'm looking more for extra mpg round town (won't say no to the extra bhp), currently get low - mid 30's keeping revs under 2500, can they be switched on and off.

Also what Type/model turbo is fitted to the 2001 110 hdi xantia hatch how do I found out, and how do I find out what type/version ECU is fitted. Forgot to check with Malcolm at Savoy when he had it on lexia.

Thanks
Faz

I'd be surprised if you found any which were Xantia specific - little call for them I think. I think you'd have to work out the various bends and straights etc yourself. Could be costly exercise doing them all?

There was a time 3-4 decades ago, when I'd replace all the hoses on a used car which I was going to keep, for peace of mind. However, cooling systems run at higher pressures nowadays, and the hoses on my (previous) BX, sold at >200K,and present Xantia, now on 186k have lasted well. On these 2 cars, I only ever replaced 1 hose, and that was a heater hose on the BX which developed a pinhole. Depends in part on the hoses' physical condition - they used to be susceptible to oil and would soften, but probably better materials nowadays.

Baker BM made some silicone pipes up for the Mi16 engine in the BX, not overly cheap mind but good quality, maybe some would be workable??
iirc he wanted 10 cars as definate before setting up the tooling etc to make a batch and one complete set of good condition Std hoses to use as a guide,

they do look Gooood though!!!!

Wow, that CX engine compartment is fantastic. Wouldn't fancy getting the spare wheel out though - looks worse that on the Reliant Scimitar GTE

Direct port can see the injectors on each inlet pipe on the plenum. the solenoids are on the injector rail, boost control is now electronic and takes the place of the cold start injector. just need to get the EMS in the car now all wired up just need to plug it in.. may be this year. Been saying that for three years!
