Fault Code Reader - Which one?

To have a fault code read and diagnosed using a Citroen dealers computer can be quite expensive.
I understand there are various fault code readers on the market which have been designed for use by the home mechanic and I would certainly find such a gadget very useful at times.
Have any forum members had any experience of diy code readers and if so, which one would you recommend? (Suitable for an XM)

have a look at the BX'ers bible in the links section - I think there is a discussion on these things there, including a description on how to make your own.

I bought a Gunson's code reader, and it was utterly useless. My friends professional one found the fault, after the Gunson's one did't. I reckon the money would have been better spent in the pub.
