Why the f*** did I buy a sensodrive?

Post by daviemck2006 »

As the title says. The c2 is knackered. I parked it last friday and has not been used since. When I tried to start it yesterday the gear indicator says 1 and the car wont start. I is in a gear because I can't push it. Any ideas? A gallon of petrol and a match? Push it into the harbour with the freelander? Hit myself on the head for buying a sensodrive? Then again for a freelander? I have no idea what to try. Its electronic black magic suppose. #-o

Just a thought, and no guarantees (as my most current knowledge is Xantia related). I wonder if it could be worth charging the battery. We know how picky a C5 is with a weak battery, could a C2 be as sensitive?

I am wondering that, James. I did think at times the battery sounded a wee bit down, so this might be the cause. I'll try taking it inside and charging it, and I'll do the leave it without touching it for a minute once I put the battery back in.

By the way, us down south now know what a proper Scottish winter is like (I already knew, as I lived in Tweedsmuir for 5 years).

There is a fair bit of info on the web about these. Lots of reset procedures and highly recommended firmware updates.

I did read to disconnect battery and leave off for a while then reconnect battery, leave for at least 60 seconds, then g in car and put foot on the brake with ignition on and it will reset, tried that twice and didn't work but then they also do need a top notch battery, sothe one out the freelander is not much bigger physically so if it fits in the hole it will be tried if charging the one that it has doesn't work.

Do you have access to a Lexia ? If not where are you located as there may be a forum member near you with one.

Fault code readings and live sensor data from a Lexia would go a long way towards narrowing down the problem. It could be something as simple as faulty inputs from the gear lever switch which should be easy to check with a Lexia. It may have a starter interlock like a normal automatic where it won't let you start the engine in gear, and you did say it thinks its in 1st gear...

Yes, I just found it on a map. Too far from me unfortunately, and my Lexia is out on loan anyway.

Sorry to hear about the C2, hope the battery is the prob. What's all this about a Freelander?

Chris in Kemnay has a Lexia. Bit of a hike but might be the nearest.
Whatever you do Davie, do NOT push it into the harbour. I get my fresh fish from Downies of Whitehills just along the coast, and I don't want petrol fed Haddock.

Nobody lives in Tweedsmuir do they? I thought it was just a bit of the A701 on the road to nowhere. Not really on a par with Reading (probably drier at the moment though).

Tweedsmuir is a lovely little village. Nearby are two lochs, Talla and Fruid, that provide Edinburgh with (at the time I lived there) 85% of their water (and was so pure that it needed little in the way of filtration). The Tweed runs through the village, and you can pan for gold in the river (not enough to live on, but helps a bit towards the bills). You could catch rainbow trout in the lochs, and salmon in the Tweed.

To give you an idea about the beauty of the place, John Buchan lived there, and when he was granted a peerage, took the name Lord Tweedsmuir (for those whose literary knowledge is limited, he wrote (amongst numerous other works) "The 39 Steps").

James, you missed the fact that Rabbie Burns wrote "Willie Wastle's Wife" while staying in Tweedsmuir. Who the hell was Willie Wastle?

I Googled Tweedsmuir and noticed the water reservoir dating from the early 1900's , supplies much of Edinburgh's water. They built a railway line to transport materials for it (and workers) I don't suppose it survives nowadays. Sounds like an idyllic place for holiday, but I don't think I'd like to live in such a quiet area. Looks a bit remote on the map. :)

see my blog Peter.

Rick, you will be ok for Downies haddies, I believe he buys them from Peterhead market, that would be a good 40 miles from macduff harbour, so won't get contaminated!!!!

The battery was fitted on 21/08/08/ By my reckoning that means original one lasted 5 years, replacement 5 years, so due one just now. I hope thats the cure.
