If the C3 was bought from a garage then take it back, and get them to fix it under Sale of Goods act. If bought privately, then you are on own sadly.... :(

Ref the turbo replacement - the key thing is to remove the filter in the feed pipe. This will do more than anything to prevent a re-occurance of the failure. He says hopefully, new turbo has been on ours 300 miles or so [-o<

Thanks for all of the help so far...so checking the intercooler for oil will be the best way to check that the turbo has actually gone?

If it has, does anyone have any turbo replacement recommendations?

thanks again

We're on our own, and we're fine about it (obviously would have preferred for it not to be an issue, but hey ho).

Thanks for the info - that's great!

Yea.. you can get what's called a turbo "cartridge" now for about 120 quid from eBay.

I've just installed one on a c4 hdi 92 .. providing your exsisting turbo housing isn't damaged..

Pop the turbo outlet feed pipe off the side of the turbo and turn the compressor wheel. It should be light and in readable free to turn and smooth.. that's your best bet. Any stiffness at all its then suspect..

Yes real Jekyll and Hyde engine these are. Just had a turbo fitted in mine. From what I've read the small filter in the turbo oil feed pipe is THE critical factor in this. It must be removed to ensure a good supply to the turbo bearings.

Was the cartridge difficult to change? I've spotted that there is a user guide and we're relatively handy people....?

I need to find a "how to" for removal and cleaning all of the components - can someone point me in the right direction?

Many, many thanks!

Info on getting the turbo out here http://www.frenchcarforum.co.uk/forum/v ... =3&t=47249" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
And I also went into some detail on citroenmad's blog here: http://www.frenchcarforum.co.uk/forum/v ... start=1745" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Had I done a bit more research, I think I would have gone cartridge as well, but there you are!

Oh - sorry, one final question. Is it ok to carry on using it in the meantime for short ish journeys? I'm not using it at the moment, but it would be useful if I could.

it depends on the extent or the reason for the lack of revs. Is it lack of air passing into the engine, OR is it simply LIMP Mode due to another issue.

I told my sister she be on to use it, thats when most of the engine oil disapeared into the intercooler.

Personally I wouldn't. If it is the turbo and any parts break off you might scrap the engine....

The garage said that it was EGR that came up on the fault code (and he's cleaned that), the engine light only comes on and goes off with the ignition - no engine light staying on...there's only the noise from the turbo that's leading me to think that might also be an issue. I need to check the intercooler for oil too and see if its now revving properly.

What sort of noise from the turbo? My Focus had a very loud, deep whistling noise that you could hear from a distance. The spindle inside the turbo was slightly loose causing the vanes to rub against the housing. If yours is similar remove the hose attached to the turbo (with the engine off) and push the spindle from side to side to see if it's loose. Look to see if there are any vanes missing.
