Xantia Ride Height Adjustment

Post by ecohouse1 »

Following on from my last post about a rough ride, I decided to tackle the low level rear end. The top of the rear tyre was at least 1.5 cm inside the rim of the wing before. Stuck the back wheels on pallets so that gave an extra 6-7" height to make adjustments.

Learned my lesson from trying this on the BX, when i rushed in and really loosened the clamp on the ARB and it took ages to get the height set right.

This time loosened it just enough so that it would move and tapped it gently with a hammer with the engine running and felt is lift slightly. Got the right height first time - bonus :)

Car seems to feel softer at the back and much more give when pushing down now. Added bonus is I am not being flashed at when on dipped beam anymore!

Well done - I had to reset mine, and after several trial-and-error attempts, I had to settle for "near enough", but it certainly complied with the 1 finger rule :)

i hope the reason for the wrong height was not down to sized/sticking height corrector linkages/turrets, as this is the usual culprit

Don't think so Malcolm. It always reacts to weight in the back and readjusts to the same height. I have always kept the whole area soaked in oil and spray grease. It always seems to move as it should. It certainly feels a lot more fluid. Now I fancy the comfort spheres so some old Citroen floaty waft. If such a thing is possible from a xant.
