There's an internal fuse for the ABS on mine - can't remember which one though. The OP hasn't reported back on the actual fault - we've probably scared him off.... I suspect he has a broken ring on the front and that is causing the ABS to activate prematurely, when it went really bad on mine, I had to resort to the handbrake to stop it - taking the fuse out was much the preferable answer!!

Yes, fuse 6 in the internal fuse box, but as it also manages the cruise control (if fitted) I went for the ABS ECU fuse (that would be the only thing affected).

The OP did say he was going on a 200 mile journey today, chances are he had already set off before this mornings discussion took place  hopefully he managed to find the right fuse and has a safe trip.

The problem here is one of litigation if things go wrong.

If in the event of a hypothetical collision, where someone has advised a course of action that subsequently proves to either be illegal or results in said accident or fails to prevent it etc. then this could open the person giving the advice to prosecution or private litigation.

Common sense flies right out the window in such circumstances and I completely agree with Paul for being cautious about offering any such advise, even with disclaimers.

On the other hand as Simon says, some Xantias (mine was one) were not fitted with ABS and managed to stop safely anyway.

I'd say it is an awkward situation to land in, where offering advice in good faith can come back to bite you when you least expect it.

tbh abs playing up is MORE dangerous then none atall...i totally agree that it should be repaired properly but when time and money are an issue(normally my problem lol) then the next safest way is nearly always the option thats taken..tricky one this really but we can only advice :)
