Lexia debugging maybe helps, if it bothers you ... btw, I can't wait to get my hands on a Lexia, I'll practically move into the car from the house ... :D ...

@ razor - How do you explain my car not doing that? My 2.0L engine is the newer date as qpr's 2.2L ...
IIRC, some of the early BMW's had rev limiters .

Anything odd bothers me, but as long as it only happens when stationary, I can live with it.

There are some engines that can rev VERY freely. If, when you are in first, it hits the red line that quickly, then limiting it when unloaded makes a lot of sense.

Yes it does make sense.

It revs far more freely that my Saab 9-3 Vector sports.

I need to get someone with the same year and spec car to check for me, but there seems to be plenty 2.0l ones and not many 2.2 173 manual ones around.

I'm beginning to fell less concerned after that Addo. The limit is just too exact every time, to be a fault ( I hope ) 8-[

Well I've been checking the rev problem all week and in 1st gear with the clutch in, max revs are 3000. In REVERSE gear, with the clutch in, max revs 2500. On the road , absolutely no problem with the revs going all the way. I'm now almost convinced that this is a feature of the 2.2l engine. It's too exact every time to be a fault. I am still keeping an eye on it, but I think Adam has the right of it.
I wonder if the C5 has a Bosch ECU like the Alpha.

It would be interesting to find someone with the 2.2 automatic gearbox, to see if the same thing applies ...

It would be interesting to hear from anyone with any X7 2.2. It would be great to get this confirmed.

Even 2.7 and 3.0 for the C5 X7, anyone here have one of them?

I think they might be a bit rare in the UK. If I remember correctly, the 2.2 engine was discontinued for 3 years or so after the earlier X7s. Haven't they just come back as a 200bhp instead of 173?

Surprising how many forum members just put C5. HDI, or C5 2.0l but not the full info.
I've been trawling through old posts to find someone with the same car, and I found "Evoke" but I'm not sure if he still has the car, because he had several problems with it I seem to remember.
I've PM'd him anyway.

That's right, they've juiced up all the engines for about 20-30 BHP ... I'm interested in getting into contact with an owner of a 3.0 Biturbo engine, I have some questions about the original double rear tail pipes and how they're fixed to the exhaust ... let's just say I still have some ideas for my car ... :D ...
